We apologise for the distruption to service in the last 2-3 weeks. Jaan was out on an important mission abroad. As usual we try to maintain service even when away from the office. However, technology seems to have by-passed Saudi Arabia somewhat and we struggled to find reliable internet service to keep Jaan updated. We are now back and hope to get back to speed this week. Apologies for any inconvenience caused to our readers. |

In his pre-budget report, the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, has announced increases in flight taxes, doubling the tax in some cases. The changes which come into effect on 1st February 2007, will see increases of around £10 on European flights whilst on long-haul flights will have taxes increased between £40-80. For flights which take off on or after this date will attract the new rate of tax even if the flight was booked well in advance. This is one tax incease which will hurt the Asian community badly. Already burdened with high passport, visa and flight costs, the Asian community will have to bear the extra £40-80 per person when travelling to the sub-continent. Mr Brown labels air travel as a luxury item which has to be taxed to the teeth; he fails to undertand that air travel for Asian people is not a luxury but a necessity. Because of family links and responsibilities we have to travel to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, often as matter of duty and committment. It is time that we, the Asian people, stood up and took action against this daylight robbery by the Chancellor. Here is what you can do...... |
