WIS Website launch

wisoclogosm.gifWakefield Islamic Society has today launched the WIS website. WIS, through its website, aims to communicate and inform about Islamic events and information to the Wakefield community. Further, Wakefield Islamic Society aims to address and clarify the misconceptions and misunderstandings surrounding Islam today, in both Muslim and non-Muslim individuals and groups within the local communities.

Sahara Group - visit to Pakistan Part 2

groupth.jpgThe Sahara Group, set up by young people, was recently in Pakistan on an educational and cultural awareness tour. The team visited various cities in Pakistan as well as areas affected by the recent earthquake, where they distributed aid. The tour was to raise awareness of the culture and heritage of Pakistan and to feel the way of life in different parts of the country and especially the disastrous earthquake that hit Northern Pakistan in October 2005. The tour started in Karachi spending 4 nights where a visit to the Qaida Azam museleum was one of the highlights. The group spent a night in Islamabad visiting Failsal Mosque, then to Lahore for 4 nights to see the historic monuments, Shalamar gardens and Wagah border post. The group then returned to Islamabad to head for the earthquake-affected city of Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir. See the photo album.

Saturday Sports Club

satclubth.jpgThe Saturday Sports Club runs at Wakefield City High Community Sports Centre every Saturday. The club runs from 10am to 2pm. The first session, 10am-12pm, is reserved for multi-sports including cricket, basketball etc. From 12-2pm, there is football training. All youngsters, aged 8-19, are welcome.

Diplomatic dinner

dipdinnerth.jpgA diplomatic dinner was held at the Palace Restaurant, Bradford, on 22nd March 2006 in honour of Zafar M Ulhaq, the chairman of Muslim League Pakistan (N). The dinner was hosted by M Murtaza of Pontefract and M Anjum and was attended by WAWA representatives. The dinner was also attended by the boxer Amir Khan. Click here to view the photo album.


Pakistan Day Celebrations

grths.jpgPakistan Day was celebrated at the Pakistan Consulate, Bradford, today (23rd March 2006). Local dignatories, representatives of the Police and community members attended the ceremony. Cricket Tour 2006

The team is scheduled to play cricket matches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as well as taking time out for excursions. There are still a few vacant places for players who want to join the tour. Start the Music - Stop the Racism - Concert

The death of Desi sports

It is rather sad that Desi sports have almost died a death and there does not appear to be any movement for revival.
