This week we have gone really soft on our readers and made the 'photo of the week' pretty easy. You will not have to get your spectacles out for this one. Here we have a friend of ours who use to drive around in this rather cool car from the 70s. If I remember correctly, the insurance on this mean machine was more than what it cost to buy. Ferrari, it was not, but coool it was in its heydays. What we'd like you do this week is not to identify the happy chap in the photograph but to name this european car. Its a good job this was not an exam because you would have all failed! Did'nt the teachers use to tell us to read the question before answering it? We asked you to name the car in this photo but dozens of people wrote in naming the guy as M Munir (aka Pinky). Everybody knows that! The car was of course the Lancia Spyder circa 1970s. And if you look carefully, you can see a spider's web on the inside top right of the windscreen - true to 70s gimmik styling. I remember riding through Bradford in this car once in the middle of winter with the roof off. Some Asian kids saw us and thought a snow-ball fight with a Spyder was a fair game. Actually, Munir telephoned me today and we spoke after several months. He contacted me to tell me that the car was a Lancia Spyder and not Alfa Romeo as I wrongly remembered. He still lives in Doncaster with his family. |
